A Simple Life, Summer, 2013

Jack and Betty Rhodus have had a remarkable journey with their prized collection of antiques as well as their reproduction home. I first wrote about them in 2005 when their home reflected more of the traditional “early American” look. Eight years later, I did this article, when they’d replaced many of their furnishings with more primitive pieces and changed the home’s interior accordingly. Plus, they’d rebuilt by hand on their land an early 1800s Kentucky log cabin to house their antiques shop. The Rhoduses are talented collectors and interior decorators, so looking at both articles provides insight into the evolution of America’s “early” look.
